The more attention I pay to my friends the more I realize that intelligence hardly correlates with what schools (at least my school) call success.

babyelephanttantrum asked: Dude. Dude Dude dude. Duuuude. You've been following me from like the very beginning. Woah. (it was only 9 months ago, but still) And I only followed you now :/ What were your other URLs?

Err, I have forgotten because I haven’t really used Tumblr for quite a while due to being preoccupied with school and sports. I think that you did follow me at one point, but then un-followed because of my inactivity which is reasonable. So all is good in the land in which things “tumble” :D

Other Person: Utilitarianism critique

goatghost:

For those of you who don’t know
Utilitarianism = The greatest good for the greatest amount of people. Utilitarianism warrants that an action is moral if it creates the most good for the most people. There are 3 main problems with utilitarianism, or util for typings sake….

After stopping and saving what I had originally written, I found that I actually had not saved and as a result am starting again.

As you stated, we both seem to be on the same general page, or perhaps in the same book.

When I was thinking about the trust argument that you made, I can to a realization, or perhaps a question. Hypothetically, If everyone where to operate in accordance to utilitarian principles would any significant change be made? I was thinking about the way in which you argued the issue of trust. Individuals, being individuals, seem to have unique sets of values. This being said, is it not true that the way in which every person weighs an action is different, so in reality nothing would truly be changed because morality would be holistically determined by each person, or I suppose that the alternative is to have a single person or a small group be the determiner of what is “good” which also seems like a terrible method. Thoughts?

Also I am pressed for time right now, but I plan on looking up the study that you mentioned :)

The Ultimate Question

Would you boil a baby to save ten people? Hopefully no one ever has to make this choice, but it is interesting to consider which is the greater evil.

A Challenge

When I think back on this year so far, I find that there are a lot of conflicts that have gone without proper attention. We tend to turn our heads in the other direction. Somehow we convince ourselves that if we look away the problem will cease to exist, and this does offer some comfort. However, the problem does not disappear. Object permanence is a concept that we have learned long ago, but somehow fail to implement now. Virtually everyone has at some point looked away, turned their head, and let that skeleton hang in their closet. We need to confront our problems when they arise, not because this is the easiest path, but because it is the right one. Let’s take the time to not turn way. Let’s take the time to make a difference, because we all know what it feels like to be alone, or to be in need of help. Let’s be reminded by these experiences that we are all human, and all deserving of respect. I challenge whoever might be reading this, not to be perfect, but to try to be the better person that we are all in dire need of.

Layar and QR codes are really worth researching, but I don’t think I should, because I’d have to summarise it and start a whole new Knowledge lattice and I don’t have enough space on my white board.

But someone else can research it and make a post about it.. Anyone?
